The Winnipeg South Minor Baseball Association (WSMBA) is a not-for-profit organization that oversees the organization of minor baseball programming in South Winnipeg and the RM of Macdonald. WSMBA operates Charleswood Place, a baseball facility located at the corner of Wilkes Avenue and Charleswood Road. The baseball facility contains three baseball diamonds as well as practice and spectator amenities. Charleswood Place maintains full time operations during May through to mid August, with reduced operations continuing until early October.

 

WSMBA is currently accepting applications for Facilities Leader for the 2025 season. This position is a full time, seasonal term position, although there may be an opportunity to return for future seasons. The employment term is designed to align with the schedules of applicants in search of a summer position. Exact start and end dates are flexible, as well as hours.

 

The Facilities Leader will be responsible for maintaining the Charleswood Place Baseball facility, including baseball diamonds, spectator areas, and common areas. The Facilities Leader will lead the team of two to four Facilities Team Members, and will report to the WSMBA Vice-President, Facilities.

 

 Job Description:

  • Oversee the daily operations of Charleswood Place baseball facility;
    • Maintain all grounds, including trimming, watering and maintaining grass, infields, spectator areas, and all common areas
    • Ensure facilities are safe for all players and spectators
    • Execution of continual maintenance and upgrade projects
    • Ensure the facilities are fully prepared for scheduled games, practices, and events
    • Update teams, schedulers, and coaches on the state of the fields and weather (rainouts and delays)
    • Ensure needed supplies and materials are ordered and available, and equipment is maintained in good working order
  • Ensure hosted championship tournaments are fully prepared for, and successfully hosted (18U AA City Championships July 11-13, and 18U AAA Provincial Championship July 25-27)
  • Responsible for administrative tasks, including the communication of payroll information, forwarding of invoices, communication with vendors, etc
  • Develop a project plan for the season, secure materials, and co-ordinate scheduling with workers, volunteers, and contractors

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

Essential qualifications and requirements are:

  • A self-motivated individual with strong leadership and communication skills
  • Availability to work 30+ hours per week from May through July, including some weekend shifts
  • Experience working with power tools and outdoor equipment (ex/ lawn mowers, utility vehicles)
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check through WSMBA prior to the start date, at no expense to the applicant

Desirable qualifications and requirements are:

  • Previous experience in a similar leadership or supervisory role
  • Previous experience with landscaping, sports field maintenance, and equipment maintenance
  • Knowledge of the game of baseball, and familiarity with baseball play and field attributes

 

Hours and term of Work:

The core term of work will be May 1 to July 31. However, the term can start earlier, and/or end later depending on the availability of the successful applicant.

 

The successful applicant will be required to commit to 30+ hours per week during the core term. Exact hours worked will be flexible given the demands of the position, but will be primarily day-time hours, and may include some weekend shifts, particularly during the tournament dates of July 11-13 and July 25-27.

 

Hours and term of work will be discussed during the interview process. Additional flexibility may be considered for the qualified applicant.

 

Compensation:

To coincide with qualifications and experience.
